Going wild with digital cameras

The introduction of digital camera a decade ago has change the scenario for hobbyist photography like me. Several significant improvements have been implemented. Firstly, digital camera do not use a film to capture images. Instead, a solid state electronic card record images in electrical form where these images are immediately available for viewing and/or printing right after they were captured. Digital camera has given the most freedom in terms the numbers shots that a photographic hobbyist could take with his or her camera. No more limitation on the length of film inserted in a conventional camera, digital version basically could take thousand of pictures depending of the memory card size and battery life capacity. With the ever advancement in terms of pixels quality and frames per second shots, a hobbyist photographer like me can go wild with this new toys.

Good times with a color camera

Once I had secure a job with a fixed income in 1978, more resources were available then for me to expand the possibility of my hobby in photography. Without delay I bought my first color capable Single Lens Reflex camera under the brand name of Contax. This was a full manual operation camera both for focus and film advancement. The camera has been faithful with me and has taken many pictures including that of my own wedding day. After my first child was born, I find that more time needed to be spent with family rather than taking photographs. To make matters simpler one week before my company send me for an oversea training, I trade in my faithful SLR for a newer model point and shoot, auto focus and motorized non SLR camera. I been taking pictures ever since both in local and abroad with my new simple operation camera.

First encounter with a camera

Despite color cameras were already introduced long before I was born, in 1973 having a basic camera with a fix focus and only capable of taking black and white captures was already a very happy moment for me, a 15 year old boy. Imagine the freedom of taking snaps with my friends despite knowing the fact that I need to spent some money for buying films and sending them for processing into prints. Since money comes from my parents and they themselves are not well to do people my idea of taking many snaps was not supported and I end up in taking up only a few shots. Despite a short experience with my first camera it has created a strong desire that one day when I earn my own money I would continue my photography hobby again.
